Once the desired time is set, you can release the pin. You can adjust the time by turning the crown. The pin is a small metal tab located under the dial. To set the time on a pin set watch, all you have to do is push the pin toward the watch and hold it there. Once you have set the date and time, push the crown all the way back in to resume normal movement. To set the time, pull the crown all the way to the second detent and wind it clockwise to set the time accordingly. To set the date, simply pull out the crown (also known as the first detent) and turn anti-clockwise to the actual date you want to set. Quartz pocket watches are set in pretty much the same way as standard quartz wristwatches. However, if you feel resistance or if you feel like it is difficult to turn it, then you should probably switch sides. If you are able to turn it easily without any resistance or spring tension, it means that you are turning it in the right direction. Start by gently turning the key in the clockwise direction. This usually depends on the watch, but the direction is mostly clockwise. You can turn the key in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction.

By turning the key, the mainspring is wound. The key is designed with a square hole in the end, which fits on the square inside the inner lid of the case. In a key wind pocket watch, you wind the mainspring by fitting a key in the hole in the back inner lid of the watch and turning it. There are many gears involved in the process of winding a pocket watch, and if any of them are damaged, it could cause the winding process to get rough. However, if you hear a grinding noise while winding, it indicates that you should stop and get the watch professionally serviced. This method of winding is also known as crown winding, quartz winding, or stem winding. This implies that the mainspring has been fully wound, and you will get optimum usage out of it before winding it again. You will know the watch is completely wound when you meet resistance, which indicates that the watch cannot wind further. If you are left-handed, you can hold the watch in your left hand and wind it with the right. The winding wheel is equipped with a mechanism that allows the watch to wind in one direction only. In order to wind a mechanical pocket watch, you need to turn the crown clockwise up to 40 turns.
